I picked the Steve Job’s biography audio book and spent 25 plus hours listening to Walter Issacson’s book. The biggest take away is that Steve Jobs could be a narcissistic jerk according to Issacson.
The stories Issacson tells of Jobs interactions with others makes you cringe. It is too bad to see how he treated so many others with a basic sense of cruelty.
At times, I had to wonder why I kept listening to the book given Issacson’s description of Jobs’ behavior, but the story of Steve Jobs is important. Jobs made a difference, even if he did it by being a jerk.
The products he inspired have changed our lives and listening to the stories of how they came about. The pain and suffering that people endured to deliver on Jobs’s dreams makes it all too clear that sometimes these kinds of things can have a price. And a high price, at that.
As for the audio book, if I had to choose again, I would get it and listen to the stories. Jobs is that important. But if you can’t take a very long set of stories about someone treating others like a jerk, don’t bother.
